Pardon, but your rules are showing.

Romans 14:17

17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14 is about the controversy the early church had about eating meat served to idols and drinking. Silly, but oh don't we see ourselves.
You should not do this or you should do that. Why are we so busy and concerned with what that one over there is doing when we can hardly control ourselves?

John 21:22

22 Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain until I come,
what is that to you? You follow Me!

I love this verse. Jesus cuts through the bickering spirit and tells Peter to follow Him.

Isn't that what we are to be about? Follow Jesus. Seek Him and follow Him. If He tells you to stop eating meat - then stop eating meat. If he tells you to eat meat - then eat it.

Follow Him.

We want to resort to rules. Regulations that we can use as a yardstick to measure how good we are and bad someone else is. We fall into the trap far too easily.

Matthew 15:9
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Jesus left us with two commandments. All we need.

Matthew 22:37-39
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Jesus only left us with two commandments.

Today, walk down your path in His righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy spirit. For we do not have to rely on our rules, what we determine is right and good, but on Him.

Psalm 23:3
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

  1. That Matthew 15 is one of my favorites. It warns me--and frees me at the same time!
